Eco-team
During the EBM a special squad is going to operate.
The Eco-team is a group of environmentalists, who will make sure that the participants
follow the eco-friendly rules. We advise you not to underestimate the team and to obey their guidelines ;)
Otherwise...
During the EBM the ECOman and his servants from the ECO-team are going to protect the Earth from your eco sins. Beware, we will be watching you!
(There will be limits on shower time!)
So… follow the eco-rules:
" Sort the rubbish.
"
Don't drop litter.
" Use eco-friendly bags! They will last definitely longer than typical plastic bags. You can also take your own bag instead of getting new ones every time you go shopping.
" Don't waste petrol. Why don't you try hitchhiking? It should be made the official means of transport of AEGEE.
" When writing, use the blank side of one-sided documents or recycled paper.
" Keep off the grass! Treat the plants with respect.
" Turn off the tap when you're brushing your teeth or scrubbing a pot. Also, when you're fetching the next ingredient for dinner, don't let the stream of water flow. Those few seconds will make a big difference if you turn it into a habit. In this way you will save water and your money as well.
" Almost 50% of the total usage of water is a result of taking daily showers. Try to cut down on the amount of water you use. Also, don't leave the water running while you're brushing your teeth or fetching the clothes from another room.
" Set your refrigerator to a proper temperature. Put a glass of water with a thermometer on the middle shelf in the fridge. Check it after 24 hours. The temperature should be between 2 and 4 degrees Celsius.
" Take a look out of the window. If it's a hot and sunny day and you're going to be out for a while, pull down the blinds and draw the curtains. Also, when the weather is bad or you have rooms you rarely use, do the same. These steps can help to control the drain of energy from your home.
" Stop buying bottled water - the production of plastic bottles consumes massive amounts of fossil fuels. There are two possible solutions for this problem, you can install a simple water filter or get a reusable stainless steel bottle. However, the transport of these bottles with trucks involved is not eco-friendly so the first option with having a water filter at home seems much better. You will also benefit from it by saving money.
" Switch off the lights when unused.
" Energy-saving light bulbs have an average lifespan of over 10,000 hours which is about ten times longer than the traditional ones. What is more, they also consume 80% less energy which means that they help to reduce carbon emissions and your bills.
Warning! Expired and unbroken fluorescent bulbs should be recycled in a special way. The best solution is to bring them to the nearest shop selling this kind of bulbs.
" After watching TV, don't leave it on standby. Make sure that you haven't left your mobile charger in the power point after charging your phone. Otherwise you would waste a lot of energy and increase your electricity bill.
" Instead of receiving traditional paper bank statements why not to get electronic ones? You will have your contribution in preserving trees and your monthly bill may slightly be decreased by some companies.
" Buy second hand clothes and items. Purchasing a second hand cabinet for example, can save many trees.
" Bring used batteries to special containers.
" Tell everyone about eco-friendly habits. Let people know these rules!
Why is it important to respect the eco-rules? We're like a computer with a multi-core processor. A 6 million core one. Have you heard about 'the Butterfly Effect'? We're doing the work of billions of butterflies. Tiny actions can save or destroy our world.
